Part of the guiding principles for the new food guide from Health Canada want to go beyond just health, and include cultural diversity as well. It’s a noble goal, to combine nutritional foods that reflect cultural preferences & food traditions. The challenge, is they focus heavily on those that hunt & gather their own foods (they make specific references to game meats like moose, deer & caribou), and ignore those that consume other nutritious, farmed meats. We think our traditions of roast beef dinners & appetizer plates of cheese, not only matter – but are good for you too!
